Finding WordPress page, category or post Ids

April 29, 2010

Some WordPress plugins and theme template tags allow you to include, or exclude, individual pages or posts from listings using their ids. But how do you find the id for an individual WordPress Page, Post or Category?

First, login to your WordPress Administration area. If you want to find a specific page id, navigate to Pages. Obviously, go to Posts to find a post id and Categories for a category id.

Once on the relevant listing page, place your cursor over one of the titles and examine the web address being displayed in the bottom left of your web browser. If you’re looking at Pages or Posts, it should end with &post=xxx. If you’re looking at Categories, it should end with &cat_ID=xxx.

The xxx number is the id for that page, post or category.
